Microsoft Teams - Open Desktop Application in the background


Change the default settings for Microsoft Teams so that it opens in the background when it first launches.

Once logged into Microsoft Teams find the user profile area in the upper right corner of the Desktop Application. It will be right next to the three buttons for minimize, maximize, and close for a Windows App. Some of you will see your Profile picture and others will see initials in a circle icon.

Clicking on the Profile area (your picture or initials in the circle) you will be given several options.

1. Status settings

2. Set Status messages (used to send a auto-reply to any message sent to you.)

3. Saved (Any post or item you have saved for future reference can be quickly accessed through this option.)

4. Settings (Change the default Application Settings for the Desktop version)

Clicking the Settings Menu item will provide the following options (Screen shot below)


1. You can change the default view of the app from the default setting to either Dark mode or High Contrast Mode.

2. Application (Options  to change how the application functions)
    A. Auto-Start Application (Selected provides the option to auto-run Teams when you log into the computer)
    B. Open application in background (If the Application is launched it will stay in the system Tray but still be running)
    C. On Close, keep the application running (If you click the close options within Teams it minimizes the application to the system tray.)
    D. Disable GPU hardware acceleration (If you have performance issues with your computer this can be used to minimize the graphics dran on the computer.)
    C. Register Teams as the Chat App for Office (This provides all other application within Office 365 the option to open teams when a file is selected for collaboration and communication.)

3. Notification - Used to setup how you wish to be notified when messages are sent to you within the Teams Application. This is a per application launch setup. You have to change this for each laptop or mobile device you use.

4. Calls - You can test call quality and other items for Teams member to member calling. Currently the district doesn't allow out of domain calling with the Teams Application. You can make video and audio calls to other teams users. All District employee's have Office 365 accounts and can participate within Teams. Guest access is also available for individuals that need temporary access to Any Teams/Channels that may be created that they need access to.
