The Novell ZENworks Mobile Management client for iOS is required to sync changes as well as some device apps to the iPhone or iPad device (includes iPod Touch).
The following resolution deals with keeping the ZMM iOS app functioning and talking with the server. This is required for any device owned by the district or personal device using district resources.
Those resources include: Mobility - to sync GroupWise e-mail Novell Filr - File access to the end users file storage such as the I: (Individual) drive or G: (General) drive Novell iPrint - This app is used to connect to district printers. Wireless Access - Changes to the district wireless Access Point SIDs will be pushed out using this app.
To ensure that your iOS based device is syncing with the ZENworks Mobile Management (ZMM) server correctly please follow these general guidelines.
1. Verify that the ZMM Enterprise Application is running. The best way to ensure the ZMM Enterprise Application is running is to go into it. Open the application ensure that it is running on the device. Please Note that the application may stop running in the following situations;
If the user double taps the home button and closes the running application
If the device is turned off or rebooted. (this includes if the battery is depleted and the device turns off due to lack of power)
If the OS closes the application to regain the use of memory (The more apps you run the more likely this will happen)
2. Verify that ZMM is permitted to use the Location Services on the device. Select the device "Settings" and tap "Location Services". Ensure that it is set to "On" for ZMM.
3. Check the ActiveSync connectivity. The Enterprise Application not syncing is one symptom (among many) of problems with the ActiveSync not happening. This is more likely if you are syncing e-mail to the device. Student devices are not using the ActiveSync services.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION When the ZMM Enterprise Application is not running:
Device statistics such as Battery levels, device location, signal strength is not reported to the server.
APN based activities such as Apple App information will continue to function since this is a separate function outside of the ZMM services. APN Certificates are managed by ZMM
Device Profiles, Apps, & settings will no update and the client will not receive the latest settings required to keep the device running properly. This includes requested staff changes to how the device functions.
